Senior Analyst - Statutory & External Reporting

The Senior Accounting Analyst – Statutory & External Reporting is a key member of the External Reporting team supporting Best Buy’s statutory reporting and Best Buy Foundation not-for-profit accounting. The role also includes assisting with Best Buy Co Inc’s 10-Q/10-K financial statement and benefit plan filings. The role provides great opportunities for personal growth and development as it offers a broad range of responsibilities and visibility to many layers of the business and management team. Specifically, this role will partner and collaborate with our Treasury, Legal, Tax, Corporate Accounting, Investor Relations, Human Resources, Communications and other Controllership teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring accurate and consistent application of US GAAP across all areas of responsibilities
  • Preparing financial statements and statutory reporting for several statutory entities, including the annual audits of these entities
  • Not-for-profit accounting for the Best Buy Foundation, including quarterly board reporting and the annual audit
  • Assisting with the preparation of SEC financial filings for Best Buy Co. Inc., including quarterly 10-Qs, annual 10-Ks and benefit plans
  • Supporting complex accounting transactions, internal control processes, audit findings and key accounting determinations
  • Determining and implementing process improvements and/or automation
  • Researching FASB and SEC guidance, along with peer benchmarking research projects
  • Preparing account reconciliations
  • Completing and/or facilitating the submission of external auditor requests
  • Assisting with other projects/workstreams as needed

Basic Qualifications:
  • 1.5+ years of experience in an accounting capacity
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or related field
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years of experience in accounting, finance, economics, business or related field (in addition to the work experience required under basic qualifications for a total of 4.5+ years)
  • Experience in applying US GAAP to large company situations
  • GAAP accounting knowledge and an ability to research questions as they arise
  • Strong understanding of accounting processes and internal controls, with an ability to identify and address weaknesses in controls
  • CPA
