Best Buy is transforming our Marketing & Merchandising IT area and focusing on the products that drive our differentiation in both marketing and merchandising capabilities. We are seeking a Sr. Director, Product Management - Marketing & Merchandising Technology to apply their knowledge and passion for product management, experience design, and engineering to meaningfully improve the experiences for Best Buy employees and our customers. This leader will be an advocate for users, a creative problem solver, and an impactful leader. You will focus on enabling and managing our diverse set of product owner teams that shape the products in our Marketing and Merchandising portfolios of work.

This leader will have a demonstrated history of defining and delivering solutions that meet the needs of the user, accomplishing this both through their work, and by leading and inspiring teams. You will also be accountable for driving modern development practices while enabling human-centered design to deliver the retail roadmap.

You will work with Engineering Teams, User Experience Designers, and Business Operations to build products that align to our marketing and merchandising vision and execution strategy. The ideal candidate for this role would have a unique blend of leadership, product management acumen and deep understanding of the retail industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead outcome-based, user-centered product management
  • Understand product management, experience design, and engineering, with expertise in many areas and an ongoing learning mindset in others
  • Evaluates value, feasibility, and business viability risks prior to making investments in new technologies
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of agile product teams and methodologies
  • Work with business, UX and technology leaders across the organization to understand market needs & vision
  • Effectively translate the needs and vision into roadmaps that will deliver meaningful customer experiences
  • Creates practices to measure the success of marketing and merchandising tool experiences and continuously improve the product
  • Refine the practices used by the team, including vision definition, roadmap planning, collaboration
  • Define and implement the framework needed to coordinate across multiple roadmaps throughout the organization
  • Ensure the successful execution of the work
  • Analyze product performance through qualitative and quantitative analysis tools and processes
  • Deeply understand the value of, and the ability to, enable collaboration between designers, researchers, engineers, product managers, business owners, and executives
  • Understand all sides of potential prioritization or trade-off decisions and make decisions to best enable necessary outcomes
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the retail industry, customer, and technology trends
  • Facilitate the aggregation and sharing of this information across the team as needed
Manage and lead a team
  • Lead, coach, and inspire a team of product managers, while creating an inclusive team culture that enables all members of the product teams to thrive (e.g., UX, engineering)
  • Provide strategic and day-to-day guidance to a dynamic team of product managers
  • Identify needed skills and capabilities and work to fill those roles as needed, including, recruiting and hiring, training, and new tools and processes to enable the team
  • Provide mentoring and advisory perspectives across the broader team to ensure outcome-based, user-centered product work is embraced throughout the organization
  • Understand funding mechanisms and manage multiple budgets to build teams that meet desired outcomes
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Extensive background of work that demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill in product management
  • Demonstrated understanding with varied software delivery methodologies and user-centered design practices
  • Understands the potential application of new technologies and how customer experiences could benefit from them
  • Extensive experience generating and/or applying all forms of customer insights, including quantitative and qualitative research and other customer signals from search, digital, and social data
  • Ability to effectively communicate design and technology concepts to stakeholders
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships at all levels and ensuring teams create a collaborative culture
  • Previous experience within or collaborating with user experience or marketing and merchant operations teams
  • Ability to work in ambiguity and break-down ambiguity into actionable items
  • Ability to navigate internal and external landscapes
  • Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in IT, computer science, engineering, business, design, human computer interaction or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years of experience within product team disciplines (e.g. product management, product capability management, user experience, engineering)
  • 8+ years of direct people management and demonstrated success developing engaged, inclusive teams
  • 8+ years of experience managing budgets and resource allocation
  • 5+ years of experience with large format retailers delivering universal commerce solutions
  • 5+ years of experience with software applications as they relate to marketing and Merchandising solutions
