Description

Independently provides technical and functional management leadership for the consumer audio and video design and development engineering areas within the Exclusive Brands organization. Lead role in overseeing the hardware and firmware design/architecture, development and assurance of solutions such as receivers, speakers, DVD and advanced DVD products (Blu-Ray), portable audio products, etc. Ability to manage external/virtual resources at our partners & suppliers to achieve technical, business and quality objectives is critical. Individual must understand the technologies and disciplines in the consumer audio/video product development field and apply industry Best Practices and effective communication to develop solutions to deliver the best customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

* Project and functional engineering lead role in evaluating supplier roadmaps and solutions working closely with our partners. Create/specify a set of standard requirements for product lines across multiple manufacturers that support the appropriate brand tier rationale.
* Lead role in hardware and firmware strategic technology planning including platform strategy recommendations across geographies.
* Lead role in evangelizing and recommending technology roadmap solutions to Product Line Management, Merchant/Business Teams and Business Development.
* Project and functional engineering lead role in evaluating, developing and/or overseeing the hardware and firmware development of products and solutions working closely with our partners for development execution. Technical coordination, schedule creation, risk assessment, mitigation and contingency planning are key job responsibilities.
* Lead role in ensuring sufficient testing and assurance plans are in place and properly executed for solutions. Provide the lead technical and project management interface to the Product Testing Labs to ensure appropriate test script, quality assurance and product compliance plans are executed is a key job role.
* Lead role in problem resolution-seen as the primary engineering authority in resolving issues on projects.
* Ensures design/quality excellence for solutions with technology partners, finished good suppliers and hardware/software vendors to deliver the best experience for our customers. Failure to deliver in this role has a significant impact to our Private Label brands including Best Buy as whole as well as missing critical business deliverables.
* Establishes and maintains key technical and strategic relationships with hardware/software and finished goods providers. Engineering and technical depth in the consumer audio/video space is a unique, value-add skillset at Best Buy.
* Scope and accountability is similar to a hardware/firmware senior or principal member of technical staff at a CE product development

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelors Degree in BSEE, BSCE, or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience
* 8 or more years of Hardware/Software design & development experience in consumer audio/video products and solutions.
* 8 or more years of Project or Engineering Management experience
* Breadth of experience in functionality (technical, strategic planning, scheduling/budgeting)
* 4 or more years of Technology Roadmap planning and evangelization experience including facilitation of key stakeholder decision meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

* MS or Ph D.
