Associate Director, Performance and Resilience Engineering

We are looking for an experienced Associate Director of Performance and Resilience Engineering to join Best Buy's Resilience Engineering, Reliability, and Quality team. This team is responsible for planning, executing, and reporting a variety of non-functional tests on a wide variety of Digital and Technology related systems.

What you will do as an Associate Director of Performance and Resilience Engineering:
This role requires skillful implementation of strategy, estimation, planning, execution oversight, metrics reporting and risk management. Bottom-line responsibility for providing thought leadership and expertise concerning multiple areas of Non-Functional Testing.
  • Lead the planning, execution, reporting, and improvement of Non-Functional Testing in a highly complex technical environment.
  • Enhance communication and interpersonal skills by interacting with senior technical and management personnel.
  • Enhance experience and knowledge of how to integrate and run technically challenging, highly visible Performance testing engagements.
  • Guide resilience practices through the entire software development lifecycle through activities like architecture reviews, code reviews, creating platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and chaos testing.
  • Characterize system failure responses through usage, failure, and anomaly pattern analysis, failure modeling, and chaos experiments/failure injection.
  • Identify anti-patterns, optimization and support development of self-healing capabilities.
  • Assess architecture and design issues relating to platform, enterprise software, and integrations with Chaos Engineering to detect issues within the applications, platform, network and databases in a controlled way using Chaos engineering tools like Chaos Monkey, Gremlin, or Simian Army.

  • Recruit, Train, and Manage Performance and Resilience Engineers in the team
  • Responsible for selecting/maintaining and integrating the appropriate set of tools, processes and procedures to ensure overall testing efficiency and effectiveness in the operations.
  • Manages Test engineers and other test team members to ensure performance test scripts and test cases are developed according to the identified test scenarios and test objectives that are in line with the Service Level Agreements specified in the Non-Functional requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with Development, Project Management and Users to foster a team environment.
  • Produce and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) around the testing performed. Manage best in class service quality and manage SLA/OLAs accordingly.
  • Lead a continuous process improvement program within the team and at the project level reviewing data trends.
  • Provide regular status reporting consistent with established program governance requirements.
  • Single point of contact for all deliverables from the Performance and Resilience Engineering team.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of performance engineering and testing experience.
  • 5+ years in a performance architect role.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge and working experience with a variety of Performance Testing tools.
  • Waterfall, V-model, and Agile testing methodology experience.
  • Excellent relationship management, negotiation, and risk management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience within Resilience and/or Chaos Engineering
